WG05 Antique Stone

Galleria antique stone figures are produced in England from old originals. Constant control of the moulds and a thorough finishing of each model guarantees an authentic reproduction of the historic originals.

Our most successful models are shown on the next catalogue pages.

Many of the figures shown have been known from ancient times and have been remodelled again and again by great sculptors. The vases are reproduced from originals in the splendid gardens of old English manor houses. Even the patina, which naturally takes decades to built up, is perfectly imitated on the antique-grey stone.

With the right care these objects are frost proof, but we recommend emptying and covering up the bowls, so their beauty may last for a long time.

On the following pages you can get an overview of this highly successful range.

WG01 Bronze Figures

The Galleria Bronze range includes many classical models, which we discovered in museums and in the parks and gardens of old villas and famous castles. In addition we regularly cast figures from our own artists’ designs.

Galleria bronzes are cast by a process which has been handed down over the centuries, and is described in Friedrich von Schiller's poem "Song of the Bell".

In the so-called "lost wax process" the artist makes a wax model for each bronze figure and from this a casting mould. After the wax core has been melted away, the 1350°C hot bronze can be poured in; this is a high quality alloy of copper and tin, as well as small quantities of other metals added according to ancient formulae.

After cooling the mould is broken away, so that it cannot be reused; skilled cleaning and chasing gives the rough figures their final polish.

Only then the are bronzes patinated by hand in several stages in our popularcolour "Galleria antique green", a protective layer which gives the bronzes a natural permanent protection against corrosion and weathering.

In a final work process in our workshops the patinated figures are hand polished and sealed. That way they gain their especially precious surface – the contours are more prominent and they are guaranteed weatherproof in all seasons.

From the model to the finished casting takes about 3 - 4 weeks of time-consuming craftsmanship. Thanks to its outstanding quality this range is one of the most successful on the market.

WG10 Devonshire
...in olden times, in the county of Devonshire, down in the South West of England, there was a distant landscape, mysterious and shrouded in legend.

Hidden in remote valleys and cut off from the outside world by misty marshland and moors, it is said they still walk abroad: legendary creatures of old fables and tales of yesteryear, half human, half monster they wander in the twilight with a secret mission ....

Inspired by history and stories, the eminent artist Fiona Jane Scott has created her gnomes, dragons and pixies of the "Mythical Range". Over the years they have grown into an entire tribe, which is really different from any other! With a typically English tongue-in-cheek humour and an incomparable charm Fiona has designed each of her characters: each of them is a unique personality. Yes, you are almost waiting for them to come to life.

This series is handmade from cast polymer stone. In their finish they are comparable with traditional English stone casts, and they are unbreakable and lightweight. With the right care this range is absolutely weather and frost proof .

And now it gets exciting...

WG02 Natural Stone
Galleria sandstone figures are masterly reproductions of antique and contemporary originals. Through the thorough sculptural work of experienced stonemasons the unique character of the natural sandstone is especially highlighted.

Under the title "Living Stone" we will show you on the following pages stone objects, which are entirely hand-carved using traditional techniques from rough sandstone blocks. Every piece is unique and made by a master craftsman, each figure was worked on for uncounted hours of skillful artistry: we ask for your understanding, if "your" piece takes a little longer to wait for: but after all it is being made just for you and depending on the size of the sculpture it might take a little extra time...

Our master stonemasons set a high value on harmony between material and form. Through the use of natural sandstone, figures and fountains are created, that are able to bring the atmosphere of romantic gardens from a long-lost past into the gardens of today. And with the right care the material of the plant containers and fountains is absolutely frost proof. To preserve the distinguished beauty of the sandstone as long as possible, we do recommend giving it a good covering over the cold period of the year.

Our fountains are designed to have their own water circulation - and work without water supply. This makes it easy to install them in your office or home as well as your garden.

On the following pages we have brought together for you our most attractive models from this collection which must be the only one of its kind in Europe. They can be integrated everywhere as a way of rounding off an idyllic garden and home design and attract a wide range of customers due to their extraordinary and exclusive decorative potential.

Be inspired on this brief journey, by the purity of classical antiquity, or the dreamy romanticism of English gardens, or the "grandezza" of the parks of Tuscan Villas...

WG03 Redwood Stone

With the Redwood Stone collection we would like to take you to the world of bewitching garden decorations, water features, curiosities and above all architectonic elements, which are deeply rooted and inspired in traditional English stonemasonry. These influences range from church architecture, through everyday artefacts of rural areas to strictly geometric forms from antiquity.

It has been the aim of the artists of this manufacturer to create garden ornaments with functionality and a convincingly clear language of form, which, when placed in your garden, will create the impression that they have always been there... Each piece is created by the master from the first draft to the finished artefact with an absolutely real looking surface structure. When you then apply the unique patina to these Cotswold-stone casts, each piece looks like as if it has weathered naturally and is hundreds of years old.

Carrying on an old sculptors’ tradition, each piece carries a unique stonemason’s mark. This mark is sometimes just a simple scratch, sometimes an arrangement of the initials of the master or even a more elaborate creation - in effect a signature on the piece. The maker’s mark of the Redwood Stone stonemasons is very similar in style to the marks which can be found on the walls of old churches, cathedrals or castles: sometimes very obvious, sometimes hard to discover, today, they still serve the purpose of identifying that each piece was made by the workshops of Redwood Stone.

When you now view the following pages, you will find out that there is a story behind many of the ornaments and decorations: why is the "Toothache Man" in pain?! Is "St. Cuthbert" really as scruffy as he looks?! What is a "Gryphon"?! What did the "Gothic Folly" look like once?! These and more questions will be answered in the following, please take off for your discovery journey!
